Course Structure

This course consists of 4 Levels with 24 units and 98 hours of audio. Each unit presents a situational topic introduced in a dialogue, and usually five grammar points. Each grammar point is preceded by grammar notes which generally are expressed in non-technical terms.

Course structure:

• A dialogue to provide a body of natural French conversation as a source for subsequent drills and exercises.
• Useful words to supplement the vocabulary with a limited number of additional words, usually related to the topic of the dialogue.
• Vocabulary awareness to enable the student to better identify the elements of the utterances learned as a whole and to regroup and review vocabulary.
• Grammar explanations to show the student the structure behind sentences in an easy way
• Drills of six different kinds, each type designed for a specific purpose.

1. Lexical drills to manipulate already acquired vocabulary and improve fluency.
2. Learning drills to introduce new grammar points (with reference to the corresponding grammar notes).
3. Practice drills to give the student an opportunity to illustrate in sentences the grammar point he just covered.
4. Question drills to prepare the student for normal conversation.
5. Answer drills to prepare the student for normal conversation.
6. Review drills (Drills preceded by an (*) have been included for optional use with fast-moving students)

• Situations to improve comprehension and serve as a basis for questions and elementary conversation.
• Narrations to provide reading material and introduce a very limited number of vocabulary items.
• Written exercises to offer to the student opportunity to relate the spoken language to the writing system.

The French Competency You Will Reach

You can choose between 4 levels to reach the level of French proficiency you desire. The chart below shows you which level of proficiency you will reach on the FSI (Foreign Service Institute) and ACTFL (American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages) scale at the end of each of the 4 Levels.

The Course

The Speed Learning French course consists of French Phonology and French Level 1– 4.

• French Phonology is an introduction to the French language and its sole focus is to provide beginners to French with the proper pronunciation. It is designed both for beginners to French and for advanced learners who still have difficulties with the proper pronunciation.
• French Level 1+2 builds upon the French Phonology course. After completion of Level 1+2 you will reach “Intermediate Mid” on the ACTFL scale.
• French Level 3+4 builds upon French Level 1+2 course. After completion of Level 3+4 you will reach “Superior” on the ACTFL scale.

Speed Learning French – Phonology

“French Phonology” is essential if you are new to the French language. This course needs to be done before French Level 1+2. Its sole goal is to teach you the proper French pronunciation without confronting you with any vocabulary or grammar. This way you can solely focus on what beginners seem to have the most difficulty with: the proper pronunciation of the French language.

This course is designed in a way that lets you speak from the very first second with the proper pronunciation so you don’t develop any bad habits of mispronunciation at the beginning of your French study.

Speed Learning French 1+2

This package contains Level 1+2 and builds upon the French Phonology course. It is designed for novices who don’t have any basic knowledge of French and for intermediates who want to refresh their French knowledge.

The units are based on a dialog in various realistic situations and teach you with the help of 6 unique drills – the core of this course – how to easily build useful sentences in all variations by yourself and make you speak French from the very first second.

Additionally, these units contain simple and non-technical explanations on the grammar showing you the structure behind sentences, vocabulary and written exercises.

French 1+2 contains 2 eBooks with 45 hours of audio and is structured in 12 units. At the end of the course you will reach the ACTFL scale level “Intermediate Mid” which is defined as “able to satisfy some survival needs and some limited social demands.” French 1+2 is intended to be completed within 3 months.

Speed Learning French 3+4

This package contains Level 3+4 and builds upon the French 1+2 course.

The units are based on a dialog in various realistic situations and teach you with the help of 6 unique drills – the core of this course – how to easily build useful sentences in all variations by yourself and make you speak French from the very first second.

Additionally, these units contain simple and non-technical explanations on the grammar showing you the structure behind sentences, vocabulary and written exercises.

French 3+4 contains 2 eBooks and 45 hours of audio and is structured in 12 units. At the end of the course you will reach the ACTFL scale level “Superior” which is defined as: “Able to speak in the new language with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most formal and informal conversations, including business and professional.” French 3+4 is intended to be completed within 3 months.
